During World War II the B-17 bomber was in every single operation throughout the war. These planes were mostly operated by the 8th Air Force in Europe. These aircraft's were used in the daily raids and most of the planes were stationed in England.Most of the missions that were carried out took several hours to the whole day to complete, and usually were deep in the nations territory so they were built tough. The B-17's often had combat with submarine pens, airdromes, factories, communication targets, shipbuilding yards, harbors, and dock facilities until 2 years before the war was over. On the battlefront with the Japanese these aircraft's became a great asset an earned a nickname called "Four-Engine Fighters" and a reputation.
